Ph.D. Position - Neuroimmunology/Cancer Immunology

Dear Professor Dixon and Team

I am excited to apply for the PhD position in Cancer Neuroimmunology role at the Biomedical Institute at the University of Basel. With a strong academic background in Pharmaceutical and Drug Sciences and hands-on experience in techniques such as flow cytometry, cell based assay, and molecular biology, I am eager to contribute to your team’s research in Cancer Neuroimmunology.

Key Qualifications:

Research Expertise: Extensive experience in flow cytometry, and cellular/molecular biology techniques in cancer research, supported by my work for my master's thesis at NBE Therapeutics.

Analytical & Independent Skills: Proven ability to design, execute, and analyze experiments with precision, alongside troubleshooting complex problems independently.

Collaboration & Communication: A track record of effective teamwork in interdisciplinary settings, as well as clear communication of findings through presentations and scientific discussions.

Thesis Research: In my thesis "Generation and Characterization of a novel Dual-Payload ADC" I investigated possibilities to overcome drug resistance in cancer cells. I tested the cytotoxicity of over 25 compounds and screened around 75 different drug combinations, to find synergistic effects between them. This was done on different cancer cell lines, which I also engineered with transfection, for the testing of the final ADCs. This was done with extensive sorting and repeatedly monitoring the target expression with flow cytometry. After some conjugation development, I was able to conjugate different drug combinations to antibodies and to see the results with ELISA and MS. I was also able to test the finished ADCs on my engineered cells. With this project, I was able to find many synergistic drug combinations, which have not yet been talked about, and expanded the knowledge in the payload field for the company. Last but not least, I had a lot of fun working on this project, and it really awoke my love and interest for scientific research.

What excites me most about this opportunity is for me the combination of knowledge I already have in the oncology field with the opportunity to dive into immunology. I have had a deep fascination for the complexity and ingeniousness of the immune system ever since my first immunology courses during my bachelors. My passion for immune-oncology and neuroscience, combined with my technical and analytical skills, positions me to make meaningful contributions to your team.

I would welcome the chance to discuss how my background aligns with your needs. Thank you for your time and consideration—I look forward to your reply.

Yours sincerely,
